Cassen Eils (2005)

Cassen Eils (born July 4, 1923 in Norderney ; † January 6, 2010 in Cuxhaven ) was a German shipowner. He is the founder of the shipping company Cassen Eils .

Career

Eils grew up on the East Frisian island of Norderney and acquired his captain's license in 1948 at the age of almost 24. He has been a shipowner since 1952 and stood on the bridge of his Heligoland ships until 2009, when he was still old, especially on MS Seute Deern , later on MS Funny Girl .

Captain Cassen Eils died after a serious illness on January 6, 2010 in Cuxhaven at the age of 86.

Honors

In March 2009, Cassen Eils was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon by the Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, Peter Harry Carstensen .

On October 15, 2010, an area in the southern harbor on Heligoland was named after Eils. The quay where the Funny Girl docks in winter is now called Cassen Eils Wai .
