The Funny Girl is a German seaside resort ship, which was delivered in 1973 as the last of three almost identical ships from the Mützelfeldtwerft in Cuxhaven . Characteristic for the ships of this series (sister ships: Fair Lady and Kloar Kimming ) is a kink running along a curved line over the entire length of the hull. In addition to the aesthetic gain, this also provides effective protection against splash water on the outside decks.

The keel laying of the Funny Girl took place on January 6, 1972, the launch on December 5, 1972. On May 15, 1973 the ship was handed over to the shipping company Cassen Eils in Cuxhaven.

commitment

After its commissioning, the Funny Girl was used on the Büsum - Helgoland route in the summer months (Easter to October) . There she was replaced by the taller First Lady in the 1994 summer season and from then on she traveled from Sassnitz on Rügen to the Danish island of Bornholm or Copenhagen . The Funny Girl operated this line until 1997. In the 1998 and 1999 seasons, she drove again from Büsum to Helgoland. In the summer of 2000, the Funny Girl was chartered to Norway.

In 2001 she drove in the main season from the East Frisian islands of Norderney , Spiekeroog and Langeoog to Helgoland and took tours from Büsum to the Kiel Canal and Hörnum on Sylt . From 2002 to 2004 she then drove in the main season alongside the tours in the Kiel Canal from Sylt, Föhr and Amrum as well as the above-mentioned East Frisian islands to Heligoland. In 2005 she returned to her former route Büsum – Helgoland.

Since the Funny Girl did not comply with EU Directive 9818 / EC, which requires the implementation of stricter safety regulations on passenger ships, the ship was modernized after the 2008 summer season through various renovation measures in order to adapt it to these directives. The most noticeable change to the remodeling included replacing the windows on the main deck with portholes . During the renovation period, she was represented in the Heligoland service by the former seaside resort ship Atlantis .

In February 2019, the shipping companies Adler-Schiff and Cassen Eils announced the establishment of the joint company Adler & Eils, through which they work together in Büsum. The Funny Girl used in Heligoland traffic was transferred to the new shipping company in April 2019.

Incidents

On August 26, 2011, the Funny Girl collided with the Heligoland in a severe storm and ran aground off Helgoland. People were not harmed and the pool service was resumed just two days later.
