Main deck

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The main deck , and the first cover , (English: main deck ) is a deck on a ship.

details

According to the definition of the authorities and the classification societies , the main deck is the topmost full-length deck of a ship if it is also the freeboard deck (also the survey deck ). This is the case with full deck ships , where the main deck is also the bulkhead deck , up to which all watertight bulkheads must reach. However, if another full-length deck is arranged above the freeboard deck, as was previously the case with so-called protective decks, this is considered the main deck.

In terms of shipbuilding, the main deck is also the one in which the upper strength bonds of the ship's hull are located along the entire length .
