Ääsmäe

Ääsmäe (German Essemäggi ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Saue ( Saue vald ) in the Estonian district of Harju .
Location and description
The village has 711 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). It was first mentioned in 1241 under the name "Asimekae". A school was founded in 1786.
Good Ääsmäe
The Ääsmäe manor was established in 1663 when it was separated from the Voore manor . In 1574, the Swedish King John III. the property to his secretary Johan Berendes († 1612). The Berendes family owned the estate until 1690. In the 18th century it changed hands frequently.
In the 1770s, under the Toll family, today's two-story mansion was built in the style of early classicism and baroque . The representative building is adorned with a central projectile , which carries a triangular gable with an oval window. A 1.6 kilometer long avenue led to the central axis of the manor house , which has been redesigned today.
In 1919 the estate was expropriated as part of the Estonian land reform . From 1921 to 1988 there was a school in the manor house. In 1950 a fire destroyed the original roof and the historic stucco walls inside. Today the house is privately owned.
