The Ziwil ( Russian Цивиль , Chuvash Ҫавал ) is a right tributary of the Volga in the European part of Russia . It runs in the northern foothills of the Volga heights . The 55 km long river (without its two source rivers) arises near Ziwilsk through the confluence of the Maly Ziwil and Bolshoi Ziwil and flows east of Novocheboksarsk , shortly after the Cheboksarsk reservoir , into the Volga. Its catchment area covers 4,690 km². The Ziwil is navigable during the ice-free period from April to November.

Big Ziwil

The 115 km long Great Ziwil ( Russian Большой Цивиль (Bolshoi Ziwil), Chuvash Мӑн Ҫавал ) is the left source river of the Ziwil. It rises northeast of Shumerlja in the Chuvash Republic .

Little Ziwil

The 129 km long Little Ziwil ( Russian Малый Цивиль (Maly Ziwil), Chuvash Кӗҫӗн Ҫавал ) rises not far from the settlement of Krasny Oktyabr in Wurnary district in the Chuvash Republic.
