The Atlantis is a former German seaside resort ship that was ordered by HADAG from the Rolandwerft in Bremen in order to use it both in the Helgoland service between Cuxhaven and Helgoland and for butter cruises on the Baltic Sea between Germany and Denmark. After the shipyard went bankrupt, the ship was towed to Elsfleth at the beginning of April 1972 and laid up there . A short time later it was towed to Hamburg-Finkenwerder , where it was completed and delivered to the Finkenwerder plant (formerly Deutsche Werft ) belonging to HDW . The keel was laid on May 15, 1971, the launch on February 19, 1972 and the completion of the ship in July 1972.

After a change of ownership and many years of service in the Baltic Sea, the ship operated again on the Cuxhaven-Helgoland route until 2014 in the charter of the Förde Reederei Seetouristik (FRS) in Flensburg. The ship was owned by the Cassen Eils shipping company in Cuxhaven.

The Atlantis is a modified replica of the sea bathing ship Wilhelmshaven built in 1963 . Another very similar ship was the Poseidon , built in 1964, but a little shorter.

history

Since 1973 the ship has rarely been used by HADAG under the original name of Helgoland on the Cuxhaven – Helgoland route. From 1972 to 1982 the HADAG subsidiary "Scanfahrt" mainly operated from Eckernförde , partly from Lübeck-Travemünde to Denmark and also to Rostock-Warnemünde in the GDR .

At the turn of the year 1982/83, HADAG sold the ship to a consortium in which the shipping company Cassen Eils and the shipping company Seetouristik each held half, and it was renamed First Lady . In autumn 1983 the shipping company Seetouristik sold its share of the ship to the shipping company Cassen Eils. The shipping company's new flagship was used for so-called butter trips on the Kiel - Bagenkop route in the summer of 1983 . In winter, the ship was repeatedly used on the Cuxhaven – Helgoland route. In view of the impending abolition of the duty-free regulations, the ship was withdrawn from Kiel in 1990 and served the Sassnitz - Rønne route , which was possible after the fall of the GDR , which connected the German island of Rügen with the Danish island of Bornholm . The ship sailed under the flag of the Arkona shipping company, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Cassen Eils shipping company. After four years, the shipping company decided to use the smaller Funny Girl in Bornholm traffic from 1994 due to the falling demand . In exchange, the First Lady returned to Helgoland traffic and drove on the Büsum – Helgoland route, and in winter also on the Cuxhaven – Helgoland route.

On September 7, 1994 there was an accident in the port of Büsum; the first lady collided with the stern area of the rescue cruiser Fritz Behrens and pushed it under water.

In 1998 the Bornholm traffic was finally completely stopped and the Funny Girl returned to her old route Büsum-Helgoland. The First Lady was renamed again and drove during the seasons 1998 and 1999 under its original name of Helgoland in the charter for the shipping company Warrings on the route Bremerhaven-Helgoland. In 2000, the Warring shipping company reactivated its old, large Helgoland , which had served the Bremerhaven-Helgoland route until 1997 and was then launched. Then the Atlantis got its current name and returned to the Büsum – Helgoland route in the summer. In these years, too, the Atlantis operated winter traffic between Cuxhaven and Helgoland.

Since the 2005 summer season, the ship has been chartered by the Förde Reederei Seetouristik (FRS). In the summer of 2005 the ship sailed on the Bremerhaven – Helgoland route until the crankshaft of the starboard main engine broke in July of that year . The shipowner's hope of being able to operate the ship with an engine for the time being, which was attempted on the Büsum – Helgoland route, was dashed because one machine did not achieve enough power when traveling against the tide and the maneuverability of the ship was limited. The ship had to be laid up until the repair was completed . The traffic on the Bremerhaven – Helgoland route was maintained for a few days with the Funny Girl , but then stopped without replacement. For the 2006 summer season, the Atlantis returned to this route.

After the Hamburg coat of arms was decommissioned at the end of the 2006 season, the Atlantis switched to the Cuxhaven – Helgoland route. On the route between Bremerhaven and Helgoland, the also chartered Kloar Kimming was used for one season before the FRS withdrew from this line. This made the Atlantis the longest-serving and largest ship in Heligoland traffic. The last scheduled voyage took place on December 15, 2015, after which the ship was at the "Alte Liebe".

On May 30, 2016, the ship left Cuxhaven and moved to Rotterdam. In August 2016 the ship was renamed Atlantic and in September 2016 it was registered for Van der Kamp Shipsales by the new owner Russel Ventures, a company based in the Seychelles . In March 2017, Kissamos Cruises took over the ship and launched it under the Greek flag in the port of Kissamos (Crete). The ship is on the fleet list of the operator Cretan Daily Cruises. At the end of 2019 the ship was brought to Perama (Greece).
