The Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung (short form HAZ ) is a daily newspaper of the publishing company Madsack , which has been published in Hanover since 1949 . The paid circulation is the Neue Presse together 137,746 copies, down 41.2 percent since the 1998th

history

The forerunner of the Hannoverscher Anzeiger was published on March 1, 1893 and was published by August Madsack . His son Erich Madsack took over the paper and founded the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung and the publishing company Madsack GmbH in 1949 (after the merger of the Hannoversche Neuesten Nachrichten with the Deutsche Volkszeitung, which appears in Celle and is related to the German party ) . The HAZ is published by this publisher together with other daily and weekly newspapers. The newspaper was produced in the Anzeiger high-rise .

Over the years it developed into the newspaper with the highest circulation in the Hanover area. In 1974 the editorial team moved into a new printing center in Hannover-Kirchrode, the printing plant of which was later closed. Since then, the newspaper has been printed by Oppermann Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG in Rodenberg . Since the takeover of the Hannoversche Presse in 1974 by the Madsack Mediengruppe, the advertising section has been shared with the Neue Presse .

Outside the urban area, so-called home newspapers, some of which have emerged from former local newspapers, are included in the entire region every day. These local newspapers report exclusively on cities and communities outside Hanover in the region. For the areas outside the core city, local parts are added via the own and neighboring municipalities. There is an exchange between the editorial offices of the main papers and these local newspapers in order to avoid duplicates. In the urban area, instead, the Stadt-Anzeiger is enclosed once a week (as issues North, East, South and West), which highlights the events in the individual districts.

description

The HAZ is combined with its sister newspaper, the Neue Presse , Lower Saxony's largest newspaper. Thanks to cooperation with other newspaper titles, the HAZ news can also be read in other parts of the state. Eight regional editions supplement the HAZ , the various titles are included daily with the HAZ and the Neue Presse in the Hanover region - the city edition has the weekly Stadt-Anzeiger.

The supraregional part of the HAZ (the so-called newspaper cover ) was also used as a cover part by many local newspapers in southern Lower Saxony until the RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) was set up . On site, the editorial offices compile the local news from politics, business, culture and sport. These include the Hildesheimer Allgemeine Zeitung , the Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung , the Göttinger Tageblatt , the Aller-Zeitung , the Leine-Zeitung , the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung , the Deister and Weserzeitung , the Walsroder Zeitung , Die Harke , the Schaumburger Nachrichten , the Alfelder Zeitung , the Leine-Deister Zeitung , the Gandersheimer Kreisblatt , the Daily Anzeiger Holzminden , the Einbecker Morgenpost and the Seesener Observer .

With currently (2012) 23.1%, Deutsche Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, the media holding of the SPD , is one of the paper's largest shareholders.

With the relaunch of the Leipziger Volkszeitung , Dresdner Latest News and Hannoversche Allgemeine newspapers on May 10, 2014, which belong to the Madsack media group , the look of the three titles has been standardized. This means that even more content from the three newspapers will now be produced centrally in Hanover. The “Madsack 2018” concept is aimed at the central production of national content for the regional newspapers; this is created by the central editorial office RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland (RND) based in Hanover .

Edition

The circulation of the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung is reported together with the Neue Presse . The two newspapers have lost a lot of circulation in recent years. The number of copies sold has fallen by an average of 3.6% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 4.7%. It is currently 137,746 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 91.5 percent.

Digital activities

The HAZ.de news portal has existed since 1996 - the new offer was first presented at the “Cebit Home” trade fair in Hanover. In early 2012 led the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung one of the first regional newspapers in Germany, a payment bound for parts of the offer on HAZ.de one. With the digital subscription model, subscribers have full access to all content on the news portal. According to the freemium concept, subscription articles and freely accessible content are available on the website - regional reporting as well as background pieces and analyzes are paid for.

In addition to the online presence, the HAZ digital offering in 2015 also includes the HAZ mobil smartphone app , the HAZ Sonntag tablet magazine , the multimedia e-paper for browsers, tablets and smartphones. In June 2013 the HAZ website was technically, functionally and graphically revised.

As the first title of the Madsack media group, the HAZ published an extensive web report in the summer of 2014: “The end of a dream” deals with the controversial Ihme-Zentrum building complex in Hanover-Linden. The ramshackle building was planned in 1975 as a showcase project for living and working in Hanover - but since investors have repeatedly dropped out, the “city within the city” is deteriorating more and more. In the report, residents, the mayor of the city and architects explain their point of view in text, videos and audios.

HAZ Christmas help

Under the title HAZ-Weihnachtshelfe, the editors have been calling on readers since 1975 to help people in need in the Hanover region. The donations of the non-profit association are administered in trust by the social department of the city of Hanover. The Christmas Aid is legally represented by the Association Christmas Aid of the Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung . Up to 12,000 people, associations, companies and institutions take part in the collection.

In 2014, HAZ Christmas Aid collected 1,035,000 euros in donations. The account is open all year round. Every cent goes to those in need in the city and the surrounding area. The administrative costs are shared by the city and region of Hanover and the Madsack media group.
