history

On August 1st, 1867, Johannes Gronemann, who came from Stade , founded the printing and publishing house. As the forerunner of the Walsroder Zeitung , he published the Walsroder Wochenblatt , which appeared twice a week. After the founder's death in 1884, his widow Elise Gronemann continued to run the newspaper alone. In 1891 the newspaper was given the title Walsroder Zeitung and at the same time became an official district paper .

In 1912 the newspaper appeared four times a week for the first time, with a circulation of 3,000 copies. Eight years later, the WZ became a daily newspaper. In 1928 Günther Schumacher and Hans-Hubert Schumacher, grandsons of the publisher's founder, took over management. A major change at the top of the publishing house did not take place until 40 years later: After the death of Hans-Hubert Schumacher, Maria Muchka and Walter Röhrbein became publishers of the Walsroder Zeitung in 1968 . In 1988 his son Martin Röhrbein joined the management team, after the death of his father in 1983 Maria Muchka led the company on her own for a transitional period.

In 1992 the WZ celebrated its 125th anniversary. Two years later it was also printed in the hometown for the first time: With the printing house Walsrode GmbH & Co.KG, the publishing house founded a new newspaper printing company in 1993 together with the Kreiszeitung Verlagsgesellschaft, Syke, in which in addition to the Walsroder Zeitung three other local daily newspapers and various Advertising sheets are printed.

After 36 years at the head of the publishing house, Maria Muchka died in 2004. Since then, Martin Röhrbein has managed the company alone. In 1999 the Walsroder Zeitung went online: The website www.wz-net.de was created.

In addition to the Walsroder Zeitung , J. Gronemann GmbH & Co. KG publishes two advertising newspapers, the Wochenspiegel on Sunday and the Wochenspiegel on Thursday , and an event magazine , the findling.

In 2011 and 2012, the Walsroder Zeitung was accused of uncritical reporting about the business conduct of local members of the Hells Angels and about the rocker association itself. The German Press Council reprimanded the newspaper in 2012 for one-sided reporting because the newspaper had reproduced the factual allegations of a Hells Angels in relation to a Walsrod city council member without letting the local politician speak for himself. This is incompatible with journalistic due diligence.
