The local newspaper appears in Peine in the Peine district in Madsack Medien Ostniedersachsen GmbH & Co. KG (MMO), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Madsack-Verlag from Hanover ( Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung ).

The MMO also publishes the Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung , the Aller-Zeitung as well as the Saturday advertising papers Hello Weekend Peine, Hello Weekend Salzgitter, Hello Weekend Gifhorn and Hello Weekend Wolfsburg.

In the Peine area , the Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung competes with the Peiner Nachrichten .

The first edition of the newspaper appeared on June 21, 1848. The local section of the PAZ is created in Peine, the supraregional section, the so-called coat , is supplied by the central editorial office Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland (RND) based in Hanover. Around 70 employees work in the PAZ publishing house. The local editorial team consists of 15 editors, including two sports editors. The PAZ is printed in Celle.

In 2010 the PAZ switched from the Nordic format to the smaller Berlin format . In October 2018, the Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung celebrated its 170th anniversary with an eighty-page special edition.

The Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung website reaches around 1.3 million page impressions and 170,000  visits per month.

The Peiner Allgemeine Zeitung , like most German newspapers in recent years to rest lost. The number of copies sold has fallen by an average of 3.4% per year over the past 10 years. Last year it decreased by 3.9%. It is currently 14,413 copies. The share of subscriptions in the circulation sold is 89.3 percent.
