She has a modern fleet with over 150 ships and a total capacity of more than 600,000  TEU . With the ships of the CSCL Globe series , the shipping company operates some of the world's largest container freighters. It serves ports all over the world, also more than 40 ports from southern China to northern China in the domestic coastal business.

In September 2014, the shipping company founded with the market attendants United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) and CMA CGM , the consortium Ocean Three . Together they want to achieve greater utilization of their own routes and create synergy effects. Especially in view of the fact that almost all other major shipping companies have formed a consortium, this step is necessary to survive on the market.

For holding company China Shipping Group also includes the stock index 50 SSE listed company China Shipping Development .

Merger with COSCO

In autumn 2015 it was reported that the two Chinese state-owned companies China Shipping Group and COSCO were to merge. The companies merged to form the China COSCO Shipping Corporation in February 2016 . The numbers 6 (COSCO) and 7 (CSCL) at that time rose to number 4, according to figures from Alphaliner management consultancy.
