Tara Air flight 193 is a scheduled domestic flight of the Nepalese airline Tara Air from Pokhara to Jomsom , on which a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter crashed on a mountainside near Dana on February 24, 2016 . All 23 people on board were killed.

procedure

The machine took off at around 7:50 a.m. ( local time) in poor weather conditions in Pokhara for the short flight of around 20 minutes to Jomsom . Radio contact with the aircraft was broken about ten minutes after take-off. At 1:25 p.m., a police team found the burning wreckage from Flight 193 on a mountainside near the village of Dana in Myagdi District . They couldn't find any survivors. The rescue operations were hindered by the bad weather conditions.

The aircraft was a de Havilland Canada DHC-6 Twin Otter , which was built by Viking Air in 2012 and had been in the service of Tara Air since October 1, 2015 with the aircraft registration 9N-AHH . The accident machine was equipped with two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 engines.

Investigations

The investigation into the crash is being carried out by the Nepalese side. According to initial findings, the plane crashed in poor weather conditions. There was thick fog at the crash site.

Others

  • The crash is the worst aircraft accident in Nepal since 2000 and the first since the crash of Nepal Airlines Flight 183 in 2014 with 18 deaths.
  • Just two days after the crash, on February 26, 2016, there was another fatal aircraft accident in Nepal when an Air Kastamandap PAC P-750 XSTOL with 11 occupants crashed during an emergency landing in Chilkhaya and both pilots were killed.
