Tara Air is a Nepalese airline based in Kathmandu and based at Kathmandu Airport . It is a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines .

history

Tara Air was founded in October 2009 as a subsidiary of Yeti Airlines to continue the service with STOL aircraft .

Since November 2013, Tara Air has been on the list of operating bans for the airspace of the European Union together with all other airlines from Nepal due to safety concerns . Flights to Europe were not offered before.

Destinations

Tara Air flies from Kathmandu to destinations all over Nepal.

Incidents

  • On December 15, 2010, a de Havilland Canada DHC-6-300 ( aircraft registration number 9N-AFX ) crashed into a mountain on the way from Lamidanda to Kathmandu , five minutes after take-off. All 22 inmates were killed. The investigating authorities cited a pilot's error as the cause of the crash.
  • On February 24, 2016, a DHC-6-400 from Tara Air (9N-ABB) was flown into a mountain eight minutes after take-off on the flight from Pokhara Airport to Jomsom near Dana . All terrain warnings from the Ground Proximity Warning System were deliberately ignored by the captain as he considered them to be excessive. All 23 inmates were killed. This was the first total loss of a machine from the new DHC-6-400 series (see also Tara-Air flight 193 ) .
