Dragan Čović (born August 20, 1956 in Mostar , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian politician in Bosnia and Herzegovina .

biography

Dragan Čović was born to parents Mara and Franjo. He lives in Mostar with his wife Bernadica. With this he has two daughters, Sanja and Daniela . He graduated in 1979, graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Mostar in 1989 and received his doctorate in 1996 from Mostar University .

After studying engineering at the Universities of Mostar and Sarajevo, he worked for the Yugoslav aircraft manufacturer SOKO and was its general director from 1992 to 1998. From 1998 to 2001 he was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina . In 2002 he was elected as Croatian representative to the state presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There he took over the chairmanship of the State Presidium from April 2 to 10, 2003 and from June 27, 2003 to February 28, 2004 .

In 2005 he was re-elected for eight months as chairman of the state presidium, but on May 29, 2005 he was expelled from the presidium due to allegations of abuse of his position. Since 2005 he has been chairman of the Croatian Democratic Union party in Bosnia and Herzegovina , of which he has been a member since 1994. In 2014 he was re-elected as a Croatian member of the State Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina. From July 17, 2015 to March 17, 2016 and July 17, 2017 to March 17, 2018 he was again chairman of the State Presidium. In the 2018 elections he was defeated by his rival Željko Komšić .
