Mladen Ivanić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Младен Иванић , born September 16, 1958 in Sanski Most ) is a Bosnian politician ( PDP ). He belongs to the Serbian ethnic group and was a Serbian member of the three-person state presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 2014 to 2018 . In the 2018 elections he was defeated by Milorad Dodik .

Life and work

Ivanić was born as the son of a teacher in Sanski Most, but has lived in Banja Luka since 1971 . At the local university , he studied economics. In 1988 he received his doctorate in Belgrade . Since 1985 he has worked as an assistant and since his doctorate in 1988 as a university lecturer in Banja Luka, Sarajevo and at various foreign universities.

Ivanić is married and has two children. He speaks German and English.

In 1988, the non-party Ivanić was elected to the nine-member presidency of the Socialist Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In 1999 he founded the conservative Partija demokratskog progresa ( Party of Democratic Progress ). Until 2015 he was its chairman.

From 2001 to 2003 Ivanić was Prime Minister of the Republika Srpska . In 2003 he was appointed Bosnian Foreign Minister. Ivanić held this office until 2007.

Since February 2007 he has been a member of the House of Nations, the second chamber of the state parliament. Until the departure of his party from the government coalition, he was chairman of the house. Ivanić is also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe .

In 2007 he ran unsuccessfully for the office of President of the Republika Srpska.

In June 2008 Ivanić was sentenced to 18 months in prison for neglecting his official duties in connection with a corruption case. Ivanić successfully appealed against the judgment. On July 16, 2010, the Bosnia and Herzegovina Court overturned the 2008 ruling and Ivanić was acquitted of all charges.
