The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) will become the central service and coordination point for the State Offices for the Protection of the Constitution (LfV) through the reform of the Constitutional Protection and, if necessary, may perform monitoring tasks instead of the State authorities itself. The common intelligence information system (NADIS) is also intended to improve the flow of information .
- Honolulu / United States : After a 94 hour non-stop flight over a distance of 8,300 kilometers, the Swiss solar aircraft Solar Impulse 2 lands safely in Hawaii . Hingis won this competition for the first time in 1996 at the age of 15.
- N'Djamena / Chad : At least 15 people are killed and 70 injured in a suicide attack on a market in the Chadian capital, in which the assassin detonates her explosive device hidden under a burqa . The Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram , against which the Chadian military is supporting armies in neighboring countries, among others, assumes responsibility for the attack.
- Skhirat / Morocco : The Libyan parliament of the transitional government based in Tobruk and parts of civil society sign a United Nations-mediated peace plan for Libya that provides for a unity government and new elections. The internationally unrecognized counter-parliament in Tripoli is boycotting the peace plan.
- Toluca de Lerdo / Mexico : El Chapo , the supreme leader of the Mexican drug cartel Sinaloa, breaks out of the high-security Altiplano prison through a 1.5 km long tunnel and has been on the run since then.

- Pyongyang / North Korea : On the 70th anniversary of the liberation from Japanese colonial rule, North Korea has announced an amnesty. Most prisoners are detained for political reasons.
- Tbilisi / Georgia : Georgia accuses Russia of violating the country's sovereignty by unilateral border markings on an international oil pipeline in South Ossetia, which has been occupied by Russia since the end of the Caucasus War in 2008 .

- Hyderabad / India : At least 27 pilgrims are killed in a mass panic triggered during the Hindu Maha Pushkaralu festival in the state of Andhra Pradesh , in which thousands of believers want to take a bath in the Godavari River at the same time .
- Space : The US space probe New Horizons passes the dwarf planet Pluto and its moon Charon . This is the first time that detailed photos of the two celestial bodies are created.
- Vienna / Austria : The UN veto powers as well as Germany and Iran find a solution to the nuclear dispute after long negotiations . The sanctions are expected to end soon.

- Athens / Greece : The members of the Greek Parliament vote with a large majority in favor of initial austerity and reform measures such as the increase in VAT and the introduction of a pension reform, which the lenders made a condition for talks about new financial support in the billions.
