District Court of Lüneburg
The district court of Lüneburg is, along with the district courts of Bückeburg , Hanover , Hildesheim , Stade and Verden, one of six district courts in the district of the higher regional court of Celle .
Courthouse
The court has its seat in Lüneburg and has been housed in the former Lüneburg Palace since 1925 , a massive baroque building that was built between 1695 and 1700 and is located on the north side of the market square in Lüneburg. The building was constructed by the architect Johann Caspar Borchmann for the Duke of Celle, Georg Wilhelm , using three previous medieval buildings. The facade facing the market square shows a three-storey, symmetrically designed building with a raised ground floor (above a basement floor) and a magnificent central portal, to which a staircase leads.
Judicial district
The judicial district includes the districts of Celle , Harburg , Lüchow-Dannenberg , Lüneburg , Heidekreis and Uelzen . The judicial district thus has nearly 900,000 court residents .
Instance move
The district courts of Celle , Dannenberg , Lüneburg , Soltau , Uelzen and Winsen are subordinate to the regional court of Lüneburg . The higher-level court is the Higher Regional Court of Celle and, as the last instance, the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe .

Ulrich Skwirblies is the president. The court has 148 employees, including 41 judges. For 2015, 14 criminal and twelve civil chambers as well as one penal enforcement chamber were established.
