The Osnabrück Regional Court is one of three regional courts in the district of the Oldenburg Higher Regional Court , along with the Aurich Regional Court and the Oldenburg Regional Court . It is based in Osnabrück .

history

On October 1, 1852, the newly founded Higher Court Osnabrück was opened as one of twelve higher courts in what was then the Kingdom of Hanover . In the course of the new Courts Constitution Act, the Upper Court became the Osnabrück District Court in 1897. After the war began in 1939, many judges at the Osnabrück Regional Court were drafted into the Wehrmacht . Judges who were actually retired and those who should have been retired were still obliged to serve as judges. As a result, at the end of the war, the district court consisted almost entirely of retired judges.

Courthouse

On August 27, 1878, the regional court moved into the newly built building on Neumarkt, which still houses essential parts of the regional court. The district court building was badly damaged in the air raids on the city of Osnabrück on October 6, 1942. Because of this and because there were fears of further air raids, alternative accommodation was found in Bad Essen in the summer of 1943 . In fact, the courthouse was badly damaged again in 1944. The renovation work was not completed until the spring of 1952. In 1969, a new building was erected on Kollegienwall, which not only houses the district court but also parts of the regional court. From 2009 to 2011, the courthouse on Neumarkt was extensively energetically renovated. The investment funds of around € 1.5 million came from the economic stimulus package II .
