history

The Nordhorn District Court looks back on a young history. It was founded on July 13, 1953 with the law on the establishment of a district court in Nordhorn and the ordinance on the establishment of the Nordhorn district court of February 10, 1955. Traditional places of jurisdiction in the county of Bentheim were Neuenhaus (district court since 1860) and Bad Bentheim (district court since 1857), both of which were former Hanoverian offices .

In 1973, as part of the upcoming Lower Saxony district reform, there were also accompanying changes in the judiciary; With the Second Law to Repeal Small Local Courts of March 7, 1973, the local courts in Neuenhaus and Bad Bentheim were dissolved. Nordhorn was now the only district court in the district.

The location of the district court was initially the city ring near the district administration, in 1985 the new building in the Seilerbahn was moved into.
