The Papenburg District Court is a court of ordinary jurisdiction and one of seven district courts in the district of the Osnabrück District Court .

The seat of the court is Papenburg in the district of Emsland in Lower Saxony. The district court was founded on October 1st, 1852. The District Court of Osnabrück is superordinate to the District Court of Papenburg. The competent higher regional court is the higher regional court in Oldenburg .

In 1826 the Duchy of Arenberg-Meppen was re-established as a civil status in the Kingdom of Hanover . In Papenburg there was the civil ducal-Arenberg'sche Amt Papenburg as administrative district and court of first instance. This was superordinated to the noble Herzoglich-Arenbergische Justiz-Kanzley zu Haselünne as a court of second instance.

After the revolution of 1848 was the Kingdom of Hanover , the jurisdiction of the administration separated and the patrimonial abolished. The district court was then founded with the ordinance of August 7, 1852 regarding the formation of the district courts and lower administrative authorities as a royal Hanover district court. It included the Papenburg office . The district court was subordinate to the Upper Court of Meppen (from 1875 the Upper Court of Osnabrück ). With the annexation of Hanover by Prussia , it became a Prussian district court in the province of Hanover . On October 1, 1875, the Aschendorf District Court was repealed and its judicial district was assigned to the Papenburg District Court.
