The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran ( English Atomic Energy Organization of Iran , AEOI ) is applicable to all nuclear facilities of Iran responsible authority headquartered in Tehran district Amir Abad . It was founded in 1974, Akbar Etemad was the first director.

In the mid-1990s, the AEOI was headed by Resa Amrollahi . In 1997, Gholam Reza Aghazadeh , until then Minister for Petroleum, was appointed as Amrollahi's successor. In June 2009, Aghazadeh unexpectedly resigned. He was succeeded by Javad Rahiqi . Javad Rahiqi is the only person mentioned by name in UN Security Council Resolution 1929 and is subject to travel restrictions.

After Rahiqi, Ali Akbar Salehi , Minister for Atomic Energy in the Ahmadineschād II cabinet , was President of the Iranian Atomic Energy Organization until May 26, 2011, which was then temporarily headed by Mohammad Ahmadian . Today Ahmadian works for the organization as the vice chief under Fereidun Abbassi . On August 15, 2013, Salehi was reappointed head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency by President Rouhani.
