Fereidun Abbassi Dawani ( listen ? / I also: Fereidun Abbasi-Dawani, PersianAudio file / audio sample فریدون عباسی دوانی; * July 11, 1958 ) is an Iranian scientist who was the head of the Iranian national nuclear program from 2011 to 2013 .

Abbassi became internationally known when he was attacked on November 29, 2010 in Tehran, at the same time as the murder of the atomic physicist Majid Schahriari . The following year, Dawani replaced Ali Akbar Salehi , who was appointed Foreign Minister in January 2011, as head of the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency . In 2013 he left the post and his predecessor Salehi was reinstated in the post.
