On November 29, 2011, the first anniversary of Shahriari's death, the British embassy in central Tehran was stormed by protesters . In choruses, they called the diplomatic mission a “spy cave”, recalling the hostage-taking of Tehran in 1979 when a group of Iranian students occupied the US embassy.
