A middle people's court ( Chinese  中级 人民法院 , Pinyin Zhōngjí Rénmín Fǎyuàn ) is an ordinary court in the People's Republic of China . According to Article 21 of the People's Courts Act of January 1, 1980 in the People's Republic of China, they exist in the regions, provinces, autonomous areas, cities directly under the government, as well as in the cities and autonomous districts administered by the provinces and the autonomous areas. They set up criminal, civil and economic chambers as well as other chambers that are found necessary (Art. 24). Middle people's courts recognize in the first instance insofar as this is assigned to them by law or a lower people's court has assigned them the case. They recognize in the second instance against judgments of the lower people's courts (Art. 25).
