Mike Mangini 2004

Mike Mangini (born April 18, 1963 in Newton, Massachusetts ) is an American drummer who has been a member of the band Dream Theater since 2010 and is the successor to Mike Portnoy . From 2002 to 2005 he set five records for fast drumming.

He gained experience in bands such as Extreme , Annihilator or as a studio musician with Steve Vai and James LaBrie , which he was able to use for teaching as a professor at the Berklee College of Music in Boston . As one of seven drummers, he was invited to audition by the band Dream Theater in October 2010 to find a successor to Mike Portnoy, who had left the band in September 2010. Mangini gave up teaching when he was selected as the new drummer. On the album A Dramatic Turn of Events he was heard for the first time as a Dream Theater member. The bonus DVD of the album contains the documentation about the search for Portnoy's successor.
