content

The album consists of two CDs . The first contains five songs that are between seven and fourteen minutes long and the second the 42-minute title track "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence".

The so-called “AA saga ” begins with “The Glass Prison” , in which drummer Mike Portnoy processes his experiences with alcoholism and Alcoholics Anonymous (every song in this saga is dedicated to “ Bill W. and his friends”). This saga consists of twelve parts that extend over five songs; In addition to "The Glass Prison" also cover "This Dying Soul" ( Train of Thought ), "The Root of All Evil" ( Octavarium ), "Repentance" ( Systematic Chaos ) and "The Shattered Fortress" ( Black Clouds & Silver Linings ) this theme.

The song "Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence", which consists of eight parts, is about six people, each suffering from a different mental disorder . The texts for the parts were written exclusively by John Petrucci and Mike Portnoy .

The noise that can be heard in the intro of “The Glass Prison” is the same noise (a record player ) that was also heard at the end of the previous album Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory can be heard.

The final chord of "Losing Time / Grand Finale" is used in a fade-in as the beginning of the following album Train of Thought .
