Live Scenes from New York (. English for " Live Scenes from New York ") is a 3-CD live album by the American progressive metal band Dream Theater , which at the Roseland Ballroom in on 30 August 2000. New York was taken . It was released on September 11, 2001 as the band's third live album, the first with Jordan Rudess and the first to include a full concert.

background

The original cover showed the silhouette of the New York skyline on a burning apple ( Big Apple ). Due to a possible association (which, according to Portnoy, however, was purely coincidental and not consciously chosen or intended) with the attacks on the day of publication, it was taken off the shelves and after a short time it was published again with a slightly changed cover. Some of the original items are in circulation, but are considered rare collector's items for which correspondingly high prices are called at auctions.

With over three hours of playing time, the recorded concert was the longest in the band's history. As an ironic commentary, singer LaBrie says goodbye after the conclusion of A Change of Seasons with the words: " Sorry about the short set " (English for: "Sorry for the short setlist"). In addition to the full album Metropolis Pt.2: Scenes from a Memory, it contains the epics "A Mind Beside Itself" (original on Awake , 1994) and "A Change of Seasons" (original on the EP of the same name from 1995) and other pieces by Tape.

The concert was released in heavily abridged form on DVD and VHS six months before the CD version was released under the name Metropolis 2000 .
