When Dream and Day Unite is the first studio album by the American progressive metal band Dream Theater . It was released on March 6, 1989 and is still one of the group's three albums to date, which does not contain a song longer than 10 minutes, as well as the band's shortest studio album in terms of total length.
background
The album was recorded in the summer of 1988 at Kajem / Victory Studios in Gladwyne, Pennsylvania . It is the only album by the band with singer Charlie Dominici , who was replaced by James LaBrie on the second Dream Theater album .
It was only shortly after the album was recorded that the band decided to rename the name from “Majesty” to “Dream Theater”, as a band with the same name already existed.
A revised version of the album was released on March 2, 2002. To mark the album's 15th anniversary, Dream Theater performed When Dream and Day Unite in Los Angeles . Two songs were played at this concert with former band members Charlie Dominici and Derek Sherinian . The entire performance was recorded and later appeared on the CD and DVD When Dream and Day Reunite via the band's own label, YtseJam Records.
