Alain Didier Zokora Deguy (born December 14, 1980 in Abidjan ) is a former Ivorian football player and national record player for his country. The tech-savvy midfielder has been nicknamed Maestro by his fans . At the Africa Cup of 2013 he wore the name Maestro instead of Zokora on his jersey.
Career
society
In 2000 he left his home country to become a professional footballer with the Belgian first division company KRC Genk . In 2004 he moved to France to the traditional club AS Saint-Étienne . With the national team he was able to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany. For the 2006/07 season Zokora moved to England to Tottenham Hotspur . After three years and 134 appearances for Spurs , he moved to Spanish club Sevilla FC for the 2009/10 season .
From the 2011/12 season Zokora played for the Turkish first division club Trabzonspor . On April 30, 2014, the contract was terminated by mutual agreement.
In August 2014 he signed a one-year contract with the Turkish first division club Akhisar Belediyespor with an optional extension for a further year.
From the 2015/16 season, Zokora began his career at the Indian club FC Pune City . After a short stint at NorthEast United FC , he signed with Indonesian club Semen Padang in April 2017. Here Zokora ended his active career the following August.
National team
In the central midfield of the Ivory Coast national team , he was not only responsible for building up the game, but also organizing the defense. In the national team, Zokora also played as a central defender under coach Sven-Göran Eriksson , as this position was considered a weak point in the team. In Zokora's actual position in midfield, however, the team was sufficiently occupied. At the 2010 World Cup, Zokora was the second central defender alongside Kolo Touré . During his time at ASEC Mimosas , he had formed the central defense with Touré.
In March 2012, Zokora announced that he would no longer play for the Ivory Coast national team. However, he returned after a few months and was nominated for the 2013 Africa Cup .
On October 11, 2012, the Ivorian Football Association honored him for 135 international matches and awarded him and Kolo Touré (for 115 games) a shirt with the number "100".
