Massamá is a municipality in the city of Queluz with 2.78 km² and 28,112 inhabitants (as of 2015), which corresponds to a population density of 10,112 inhabitants / km². A well-known landmark of the municipality is the well of Massamá (pt. Chafariz de Massamá ). The well is considered a historical heritage and gave the place the name Massamá, which comes from the geonym "Mactamã" and which means "place with good water" or "spring".

Since July 26, 1997 Queluz has been divided into three freguesias and formed into the city of Queluz with the municipalities of Massamá, Monte Abraão and Queluz.

On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Massamá and Monte Abraão were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Massamá e Monte Abraão .
