Rio de Mouro is a small town (vila) in Portugal . It borders immediately to the south of Algueirão-Mem Martins and has the status of a municipality ( Freguesia ) within the district ( Município ) of Sintra in the Lisbon district . The suburb, 15 km northwest of Lisbon, has a municipal area of 16.5 km² and a population of 47,311 (as of June 30, 2011). Rio de Mouro received city rights on July 2, 1993.
The Igreja de Nossa Senhora de Belém from the 16th century and the Casa-Museu Leal da Câmara museum are particularly worth seeing.
