The Região de Lisboa ( German Region Lisbon ) is a Portuguese region made up of parts of the districts of Lisbon and Setúbal . In the north it borders on the Região Centro , in the northeast, east and south on the Alentejo and in the south and west on the Atlantic . The region covers an area of 3,001 km² and has 2,815,851 inhabitants (2013).
This region was established in 2002 when the Lisboa e Vale do Tejo region was divided. The subregions Oeste and Médio Tejo were assigned to the Região Centro and the subregion Lezíria do Tejo to the Alentejo . The Região de Lisboa is identical to the Lisbon metropolitan area .
The Região de Lisboa consists of 18 districts.

The Lisbon region is by far the wealthiest in Portugal . In comparison with the GDP of the EU, expressed in purchasing power standards, the Lisbon region achieved an index of 104.3 (EU-25: 100) ( 2003 ), which is slightly above the EU average. In 2017 the unemployment rate was 9.5%.
