Lisboa e Vale do Tejo ( Lisbon and Tagus Valley ) is the former name of a region in Portugal . It included the entire district of Lisbon , almost the entire district of Santarém , half of the district of Setúbal and about a third of the district of Leiria .

Neighboring regions were the Região Centro in the north and the Alentejo in the east and south. To the west and south lies the Atlantic Ocean.

The Lisboa e Vale do Tejo region comprised 11 633 km², 13% of continental Portugal. The region had a population of 3.5 million (2001, 35% of continental Portugal).

There were 5 statistical sub-regions:

In the Lisboa e Vale do Tejo region there were 51 municipalities (16.5% of all Portuguese municipalities).

In 2002 the region was dissolved and the sub-regions divided between the Região Centro , the Alentejo and the newly founded Região de Lisboa .
