San José is a province in Costa Rica . It is located in the center of the country around the state capital San José , which is also the capital of the province.
Neighboring provinces are Alajuela , Heredia , Cartago , Limón and Puntarenas . The province of San José has an area of 4965.3 km² and has 1,404,242 (2011) inhabitants.
