Dennis Gentenaar (born September 30, 1975 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch football goalkeeper .

Career

Gentenaar comes from the youth of the NEC Nijmegen , where he served as a substitute goalkeeper since 1995/96. In the 2000/01 season he made it into the starting line-up. Up until that point, he had only played seven league games for NEC. He stayed in Nijmegen until the 2005/06 season before moving to the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund . After Roman Weidenfeller's failure , Gentenaar impressed in ten games for BVB from matchday 24 with excellent saves and kept Dortmund in the game several times. The goalkeeper conceded a total of nine goals in the Bundesliga. However, he only stayed one season in Dortmund and then went back to the Netherlands and joined the traditional club Ajax Amsterdam . There he was goalkeeper number 2 behind Maarten Stekelenburg . At the end of his first season at Ajax, Gentenaar celebrated his first title by winning the KNVB Cup . The following two seasons ended disappointingly: no national title could be won. His competitor for the position in Tor Maarten Stekelenburg kept his regular place. For the 2009/10 season Gentenaar moved to VVV-Venlo , where he competed with the Belgian Kevin Begois .

In summer 2012 he left Venlo after three years and joined Almere City FC .
