Alexander "Alex" Anton Aiko Pastoor (born October 26, 1966 in Amsterdam ) is a former Dutch football player and now coach .

Career

As a player

Pastoor first played for the AFC '34 . For the 1989/90 season he moved to the first division club FC Volendam . In August 1989, Volendam made his debut in the Eredivisie when he came on as a substitute for John Binken on the first day of that season against HFC Haarlem in the 78th minute . In November 1989 he scored his first goal in the top Dutch league in a 2-2 draw against PSV Eindhoven .

After more than 170 games for Volendam, Pastoor moved to league rivals SC Heerenveen in March 1995 . In his three years with Heerenveen, he completed 76 games in the Eredivisie, in which he remained without a goal. In April 1998 he moved to Belgium for KRC Harelbeke . In the same month he made his debut for the club in the Jupiler League when he was in the starting line-up against Standard Liège on Matchday 28 of the 1997/98 season and was replaced by Steven Wostijn in the 83rd minute . In total, he completed 18 games for Harelbeke in the top Belgian division, in which he remained without a hit.

For the 1999/2000 season he moved to Austria for SC Austria Lustenau . In June 1999 he made his debut for Lustenau in the Bundesliga , when he was in the starting line-up against SV Austria Salzburg on the first day of that season . By the end of the season he made 33 appearances in the top Austrian league for the club, from which Lustenau had to relegate as bottom of the table. After relegation, Pastoor scored his only goal for Lustenau in September 2000 in a 2-1 defeat against DSV Leoben in the second division . In January 2001 he moved to the regional league team SCR Altach , for whom he played for half a year before ending his career after the 2000/01 season.

As a trainer

After retiring, Pastoor returned to the Netherlands and coached the AZ Alkmaar U-19 team . After a few months at AZ, he became head coach of the lower class AFC '34 in November 2001 .

For the 2005/06 season he moved to Turkey and coached the U-21 team of Fenerbahçe Istanbul . After a season abroad, he returned to the Netherlands in the summer of 2006 and became assistant coach to Gertjan Verbeek at SC Heerenveen , for which he had already played as a player . After Verbeek's move to Feyenoord Rotterdam for the 2008/09 season, Pastoor also moved to Feyenoord and was coach of the reserve team.

For the 2009/10 season he took over the post of head coach at the second division club Excelsior Rotterdam . After a third place in the table at the end of the season he was able to defeat with Excelsior in the relegation to promotion PEC Zwolle and Sparta Rotterdam and thus move up to the Eredivisie . The 2010/11 season ended in 16th place in the table and thus on a relegation place. In the relegation, they defeated FC Den Bosch and Helmond Sport and could thus avoid relegation.

For the 2011/12 season Pastoor moved to league rivals NEC Nijmegen . In his first season at Nijmegen, they finished eighth in the table at the end of the season. In the 2012/13 season they finished 15th, four points ahead of the relegation ranks. In August 2013, Nijmegen parted ways with him after the club was bottom of the table without any points after three matchdays in the 2013/14 season.

In March 2014 he became a coach in the Czech Republic at Slavia Prague . He took over the club after 18 matchdays in tenth place in the table with four points ahead of the relegation ranks and ended the season with Slavia in 14th place in the table with one point ahead of the first relegated.

Before the end of the season, he was sure to return to AZ Alkmaar, where he was to become Marco van Basten's assistant coach . After van Basten's resignation due to health reasons, he initially became head coach of Alkmaar in August 2014. After two games as coach of Alkmaar, they separated amicably in September 2014.

During the winter break of the 2014/15 season he was coach of the second division team Sparta Rotterdam. After he took over the club in sixth place in the table, he ended the season with Sparta in eighth place. In his second season he was able to become champion of the Eerste Divisie with Sparta and rise to the Eredivisie. The 2016/17 season ended in 15th place in the top division. In December 2017, Sparta parted ways with Pastoor. At that time, after 17 match days, they were in last place.

In March 2019 he became coach of the Austrian Bundesliga club SCR Altach , for which he had already played as a player. At the time of the takeover, the Altacher were one point ahead of the relegation place on the penultimate place in the table.
