Viðar Örn Kjartansson (born March 11, 1990 in Selfoss ) is an Icelandic football player . The striker , who has played in the top division in his home country as well as in Norway , China , Sweden and Israel , made his debut for the Icelandic national team in 2014 . In 2013 he was Icelandic and in 2014 Norwegian top scorer.
Career
Viðar Örn comes from the youth of the UMF Selfoss . In 2006 he made his debut in the third class 2. deild karla in the club's competition team. At the end of the following season he rose with the club in the 1st deild karla . There he missed the march through to the Úrvalsdeild karla with the team as third in the table . With eight goals this season, he had drawn attention to himself and therefore moved to ÍBV Vestmannaeyjar in the first division in early 2009 . Here, however, he only stayed one season and then returned to the UMF Selfoss, which had meanwhile risen. With the club he missed relegation, but with 16 goals this season was a guarantee for direct promotion. Although he scored seven goals in the top division, he again ended the season with the team on a relegation zone. Therefore, he moved within the championship to Fylkir Reykjavík . With 13 goals this season he placed tied with Atli Viðar Björnsson and Gary Martin at the top of the scorers list.
In December 2013 the Norwegian club Vålerenga Oslo signed Viðar Örn, who signed a contract valid until the end of 2016. After he had already played for various Icelandic junior selections, he made his debut in May 2014 a few weeks after his debut in the Tippeligaen against Austria in the senior national team. Under coach Kjetil Rekdal , he also appeared at his new club as a dangerous attacker. By the end of the season he had scored almost half of the club's 59 goals this season from the Norwegian capital with 25 goals this season. As the top scorer, he also distanced second-placed Christian Gytkjær from FK Haugesund by ten goals. However, as sixth in the table, the club missed entry into the European Cup . Although he held parallel in the wider circle of the national team, but did not establish himself as a regular player.
After only one season Viðar Örn left Norway and went to China. From then on he played for Jiangsu Suning in the Chinese Super League , with nine goals this season he was one of the club's top scorers. While in the championship the ninth place in the table was occupied, he won the national cup with the club after a 0-0 draw and a 1-0 win after extra time in the finals against Shanghai Shenhua . He was in the starting line-up in both the first and second leg, in the second leg he was replaced by coach Dan Petrescu for the future goalscorer Sammir shortly before the end of regular time .
At the end of January 2016, Viðar Örn returned to Europe and signed a three-year contract with the Swedish club Malmö FF . Here, too, he distinguished himself as a regular goalscorer. In March he played his ninth international match for the Icelandic national team, but in the summer of that year he was not part of the squad at the 2016 European Championship finals - even though he was also in the top group of the scorers' list in the Allsvenskan at this time . After 14 goals in twenty games by the end of August, he moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv just before the end of the summer transfer period , where he signed a four-year contract.
