history
The master shoemaker Johann Baptist Werdich opened the first shop in Wangen im Allgäu in 1895 and ran it together with his wife until it was taken over by his son Johann Werdich in 1925. A second shoe shop was opened by Josef Werdich in Leutkirch im Allgäu in 1930 . The first branch in Ulm opened in 1937, but was completely destroyed in the course of the Second World War. The takeover of owner-managed regional sole proprietorships and numerous start-ups resulted in further businesses. In addition, an online shop for shoes has been operated since 2006. Today Werdich is one of the 20 largest chain stores in the German shoe retail sector and in 2017 operated 45 specialist shops in 29 locations in southern Germany .
