Gabriel Nicu Giurgiu (born September 3, 1982 in Cluj-Napoca ) is a Romanian football player . The midfielder has been playing for Universitatea Cluj in Liga IV since summer 2016 .

Career

The career of Giurgiu started in 1999, when he was in the squad for the first team of Universitatea Cluj was called that at the time the Romanian in the second division, the Divizia B , played. In his first season he only came on one mission and had to relegate his team to Divizia C at the end of the season . After the direct resurgence, he developed into a regular player. With his club he placed himself in midfield of Divizia B for several years. In the 2005/06 season, the club narrowly missed promotion to Divizia A as third place behind Liberty Salonta and FC Bihor Oradea .

In the winter break 2006/07 Giurgiu was with Universitatea on the first place of the season II of the League 2, when the first division club Oțelul Galați signed him . At the end of the season he was able to achieve a fifth place with Oțelul and qualify for the UEFA Cup . Through this success, the Russian first division club Rubin Kazan became aware of Giurgiu and signed him in August 2007. There he was unable to assert himself, however, and only made three appearances in the 2007 season . In early 2008 he was loaned to Oțelul for six months. After his return to Kazan he was only used there in the second team, so that he had no part in the championship of Rubin.

At the beginning of 2009 Giurgiu returned to Romania and joined Oțelul Galați again. First under Petre Grigoraș and from summer 2009 under Dorinel Munteanu , he became a regular in the team. At the end of the 2010/11 season he surprisingly won the Romanian championship. With the victory in the Supercup in July 2011 against Steaua Bucharest , his second title followed. In the summer of 2014, he left Oțelul after more than five years and joined the Israeli first division club Maccabi Netanja . In summer 2015 he returned to Romania, where he hired at CS Concordia Chiajna . He secured relegation with the club in the 2015/16 season. In the summer of 2016 Giurgiu moved to his hometown club Universitatea Cluj in Liga IV .

National team

In June 2011 Giurgiu was appointed by national coach Răzvan Lucescu to the squad of the Romanian national team. On June 8, 2011, he made his debut in the friendly against Brazil when he came on in the 66th minute for Alexandru Bourceanu . Three days later he started his first game against Paraguay .
