The FK Rad (full official name in Serbian : Фудбалски клуб Рад Београд, Fudbalski klub Rad Beograd ), usually short wheel ( German : "Arbeit" or "Die Arbeit"), also known as Građevinari ("Bauingenieure" or "Die Civil engineers ”), is a Serbian football club founded in 1958 from the Banjica district , which lies between the Belgrade municipalities of Savski Venac and Voždovac . He currently plays in the Superliga , the top division in Serbian football .
history
1958–1992: From founding a club to first class
The association named after the company was founded in the first half of 1958 on the initiative of several mechanical engineers from the former Belgrade construction company Građevinsko preduzeće "Rad" - GP RAD . The company accepted the idea of its engineers that FK Rad should take the place of the FK Razvitak club in the Banjica district in the lower leagues of Socialist Yugoslavia and thus received its support. The first club management consisted of the club's president Petar Djerasimović, his vice-president Ljubomir Lazić, general secretary Radojica Tanasijević and finance manager Željko Marjanović, all co-founders of the club. The very first club coach was Nikola Marjanović , a former Yugoslav national soccer player . The association received construction space from the municipality of Banjica for the construction of a soccer field , which was finally built by the GP RAD company in a relatively short time .
Due to the good organization of the club, as well as the decent financial starting position, the club managed to rise every time in the following four years. The first peak was finally reached in 1973 when Rad was promoted to the 2nd Yugoslav League. There they were considered a stable second division team until 1987, because in the same year they were promoted to the 1st Yugoslav league with the championship victory . Until then, the club had not been relegated in any league in which it participated, which was to remain until the break-up of Yugoslavia in 1992. Previously succeeded in the season 1988/89 4th place and thus participation in the UEFA Cup 1989/90 , where they just failed to Olympiacos Piraeus . In 1991 they also took part in the Mitropa Cup. Until 1992, Rad was always in the top half of the table.
Stadion
Rad plays its home games mainly in the 6,000-seat Kralj Petar Prvi stadium . It is named after Petar I , the former king of Serbia and from 1918 until his death king of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes . The sports facility is to be renovated soon in order to meet the quality and safety standards for national football events of the top division; some of the work has already been completed. For home games against the two major Belgrade clubs Red Star and Partizan, the club sometimes relocates to the Obilić stadium , which can hold around 5,000 spectators.
