Britt Curtis Assombalonga (born December 6, 1992 in Kinshasa ) is a Congolese football player who has been under contract with the English second division club Middlesbrough FC since 2017 .

Career

Watford FC

Britt Assombalonga, who grew up in London , made his debut for Watford FC on March 17, 2012 in a 0-0 draw against Coventry City . By the end of the 2011/12 Football League Championship , he played a total of four league games, but remained without a goal.

In August 2012, the 19-year-old Assombalonga moved on loan to fourth division club Southend United . After a good debut and four goals in six games, Southend extended the loan until the beginning of January 2014 before expanding in December 2013 to the end of the season. With fifteen league goals, the young striker was the top scorer in the table.

Peterborough United

On July 31, 2013, the third division Peterborough United announced the commitment of Assombalonga for the club's internal record transfer of 1.1 million pounds . The striker, equipped with a four-year contract, scored 23 league goals in Football League One 2013/14 for his new club , becoming the second top scorer in the league behind Sam Baldock (24 goals) from Bristol City . Peterborough moved into the play-offs as sixth in the table, but failed prematurely at Leyton Orient . Even before the end of the season, Assombalonga had won the Football League Trophy with United . In the 3-1 final win over Chesterfield FC , he scored the final score in the 78th minute with a penalty.

Nottingham Forest

On August 6, 2014 Assombalonga moved to the second division Nottingham Forest for a transfer fee of around 5.5 million pounds . In the Football League Championship 2014/15 he was able to meet the high expectations placed on him and scored fifteen goals before seriously injuring his knee on February 11, 2015 in a 3-0 home win over Wigan Athletic . The injury resulted in him being sidelined for about twelve months.

Middlesbrough FC

In June 2017, Assombalonga moved to Middlesbrough FC for a fee of £ 15m.
