Marcus Joseph Tavernier (born March 22, 1999 in Leeds ) is an English football player . He has played for the second division club Middlesbrough FC since 2013 .

Career

Marcus Tavernier began his football career in the youth of Newcastle United . In 2013 he moved to Middlesbrough FC . From 2016 he was used in the U23 of the club. On August 22, 2017, he made his debut for the first team in the second round game of the League Cup in the home game against Scunthorpe United on the starting line-up. After 64 minutes of play he was substituted for Stewart Downing , previously he had prepared the 3-0 final score by Ashley Fletcher . He played his first league game on October 28 in the away game at Reading FC . In total, he made eight appearances for the first team by mid-January 2018, where he participated in three of the team's goals.

On January 17, 2018, Tavernier moved on loan to third division club Milton Keynes Dons . For the club he was used in eight out of a possible 20 games, he did not succeed in a goal participation. Milton Keynes Dons rose as the penultimate of the table in the Football League Two . After the end of the season, Tavernier returned to Middlesbrough.

National team

Tavernier plays for the English Association's youth selection . In October 2017 it was considered for the U19 for the first time .

Personal

Tavernier was born in Leeds in March 1999 . His older brother James Tavernier is also a professional footballer and currently the team captain of the Scottish first division club Glasgow Rangers .
