Career
society
Paddy McNair made his Premier League debut on September 27, 2014 in a home game against West Ham United . In his first year he made 16 appearances, half of them over the full season. On February 10, 2015, he extended his contract to June 30, 2017 with an option for a further year. In the second year, however, he could not confirm the performance. It took, also due to injury, until matchday 14 before he was back in the starting line-up for the first time. In the second half of the season he only made three short appearances and was temporarily withdrawn to the 2nd team. After all, he was used for 90 minutes in the UEFA Europa League against FC Midtjylland in February 2016 .
For the 2016/17 season , McNair and Donald Love moved for a total of £ 5.5 million to league rivals AFC Sunderland , with whom he received a four-year contract dated June 30, 2020.
National team
At the end of 2014, Paddy McNair was appointed as a substitute for the Northern Irish national team for the first time . He made his debut on the field on September 4, 2015 when he was substituted in for the qualifying match for the 2016 European Football Championship in France against the Faroe Islands . In the last two group games, in which the Northern Irish made the group victory perfect and qualified for a European Championship for the first time, he was in the starting line-up. As the youngest player in his country, he was accepted into the Northern Irish EM squad in early June 2016 . He was on the starting line-up for the first game against Poland, but was replaced at half-time. In the second game against Ukraine he was substituted on again in the 90th minute when the score was 1-0, but remained on the bench in the remaining two games until he was eliminated in the round of 16.
