Darren Edward Andrew Randolph (born May 12, 1987 in Bray ) is an Irish football goalkeeper .

Career

society

Randolph began his career with the Ardmore Rovers, but soon moved to Charlton Athletic . There he made his debut against Liverpool on the last day of the 2006/07 season after Charlton had already been relegated. This was followed by several loans to mostly lower-class clubs. Although he did a few missions there, he never really established himself because the loan was only agreed for a few months.

In 2010 he moved to the Scottish Premier League for Motherwell FC , where he was able to fight for a regular place for the first time and completed a total of 111 league games in three years. In 2013 he returned to England where he joined Birmingham City . In 2015 he switched to West Ham United after his contract with Birmingham expired. There he made his competitive debut in the Europa League qualifier against FC Lusitanos . He was unable to assert himself permanently at his new club, but was regularly in the squad as a substitute goalkeeper for Adrián . For the 2017/18 season he moved for a transfer fee of 5 million pounds sterling as a nominal new goalkeeper to relegated from the Premier League FC Middlesbrough . There he made his debut in the 1-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Matchday 1.

National team

Randolph was in the 5-0 win against Northern Ireland on May 24, 2011 for the first time in the squad of the Irish national football team , but was not used. He made his debut on September 11, 2012 in a 4-1 win over Oman when he came on for David Forde at halftime . Randolph couldn't get beyond the role of substitute keeper for Shay Given . It was only followed by another friendly against Spain .

In the qualifying game for the European Football Championship 2016 on October 8, 2015 against Germany , Shay Given had to be replaced immediately before half-time injured and Randolph came to his first competitive game. Not only did he not concede a goal, but his long tee shot also initiated the 1-0 winner by Shane Long . Then he was also in the last qualifying game and the two successful relegation games in goal. He also stayed in goal in preparation for the European Championship and was accepted as a regular goalkeeper in Ireland's squad. As the youngest and most inexperienced of the nominated goalkeeper trio with only nine internationals, he played all four Irish tournament games until he was eliminated in the round of 16. As a result, Randolph increasingly established himself as the goalkeeper of the Irish national team and played the majority of qualifying games for the 2018 World Cup .
