James Henry Tavernier (born October 31, 1991 in Bradford ) is an English football player who has been under contract with the Glasgow Rangers since July 2015 .
Career
James Tavernier was born in Bradford in 1991 . He began his career at Farsley Celtic about nine kilometers from Leeds . At the age of nine he moved to Leeds United . As a 16-year-old, he moved to Newcastle United . For the team known as Magpies , he played a year in the Youth Academy before moving up to the professional squad. Tavernier made his professional debut in September 2009 in the third round of the 2009/10 League Cup against Peterborough United . In January 2011 Tavernier was awarded together with Jóan Símun Edmundsson for a month at Gateshead FC in the National League . The 19-year-old's loan from the fifth division was later extended until the end of the season. In August 2011, a four-month loan to third division club Carlisle United followed . From November 2011 to January 2012, Tavernier was loaned out directly to Sheffield Wednesday . In the same season, Milton Keynes Dons, the third club followed on loan. At the start of the 2012/13 Premier League season , Tavernier extended his contract in Newcastle by three years until 2015. For Newcastle, he made his Premier League debut against Reading FC in September 2012 , having previously played against Atromitos Athens in the European Cup was used. By the end of the season, the right-back completed another appearance in the league against Arsenal in a 3-7 defeat in London. From the 2013/14 season on loan to Shrewsbury Town and Rotherham United followed . In the summer of 2014, Tavernier moved to Wigan Athletic early for an unknown transfer . He was used eleven times in the first half of the year before loaning to Bristol City in January 2015 until the end of the season . With Bristol he won the League Trophy and Third League Championship . After the loan ended, he left Wigan with Martyn Waghorn for Glasgow Rangers during the summer break . With the Rangers he was a regular player in the 2015/16 season and played all league games. With the Rangers he achieved promotion to the Scottish Premiership by winning the second division championship . He also won the Challenge Cup with the Rangers in April 2016 . At the beginning of the first division season, the contract in Glasgow was extended early.
