Leon Aderemi Balogun (born June 28, 1988 in Berlin ) is a German - Nigerian soccer player .

Career

societies

Balogun played for Hertha BSC and Hertha Zehlendorf in his youth . For the latter, he made seven appearances in the Verbandsliga Berlin in the 2006/07 season before moving to Türkiyemspor in 2007 . For this club he played 29 games in the Oberliga Nordost , in which he scored four goals. In the 2008/09 season he was signed by Hannover 96 and was part of the professional squad. After he had only played in the second team in the Regionalliga Nord , he made his Bundesliga debut on April 19, 2009 (28th matchday) . In the 1: 2 defeat in the away game against Hamburger SV , he came on for Gaëtan Krebs in the 85th minute . During the 2010 summer break, Balogun moved to league rivals Werder Bremen . For the 2012/13 season he went to Bundesliga club Fortuna Düsseldorf , who provided him with a contract that ran until June 30, 2014. On October 2, 2014, he joined the second division club SV Darmstadt 98 . He received a contract with the promoted team until the end of the 2014/15 season . Despite the promotion to the 1st Bundesliga, Balogun did not extend his expiring contract and signed a three-year contract with 1. FSV Mainz 05 .

After the end of his contract, he joined Brighton & Hove Albion for two years in May 2018 . As of January 31, 2020, second division Wigan Athletic Balogun loaned out for six months.

In July 2020 Balogun moved to Scotland for the Glasgow Rangers for an initial year .

National team

On March 5, 2014 Balogun made his A international debut for Nigeria in a 0-0 friendly against Mexico . He was substituted on in the second half, but had to leave the pitch 20 minutes later with a broken metatarsus.

He was in the Nigerian squad for the 2018 World Cup and was used there in all three group matches over the full season.
