Allan James McGregor (born January 31, 1982 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish football player who is under contract with the Glasgow Rangers and plays on the position of goalkeeper .
Club career
Allan McGregor was hired by the Glasgow Rangers as a goalkeeper in the summer of 1998 . In 2001 he received a professional contract for the first team, where he was initially a substitute for Stefan Klos for three years . In the following two seasons McGregor was awarded to FC St. Johnstone and Dunfermline Athletic , where he was able to gain his first experience as a regular goalkeeper. In 2006 he returned to the Rangers and extended his contract although he had little chance of a regular place. But the other two goalkeepers Lionel Letizi and Stefan Klos injured themselves in the 2006/07 season, so that McGregor came to many missions in which he always knew how to convince. During this time he also gained his first international experience at the UEFA Cup games against Molde FK , both of which ended without a goal for Rangers. In September 2006 he was named Player of the Month in the Scottish Premier League .
After Letizi's return, McGregor was initially back on the bench, but fans vehemently demanded him to be the first goalkeeper. Despite these demands, Paul Le Guen held on to Letizi until he was injured again. After the 2006/07 season, McGregor was voted Player of the Year by his teammates. In the following season the goalkeeper won the national cup and the league cup with the Rangers and a year later the double with the championship and cup again.
In January 2017, McGregor was loaned to Cardiff City .
In May 2018, McGregor moved to the Glasgow Rangers .
National team
When Alex McLeish took office as national coach of Scotland , McGregor's first nomination followed in January 2007. He made his debut on May 30, 2007 when he played against Austria . After that, McGregor was always the second goalkeeper behind Craig Gordon . After the 3-0 defeat by the Netherlands on March 28, 2009, the goalkeeper and his teammate and captain of the national team Barry Ferguson were involved in a drinking party at the hotel. Because of this escapade, both players were relegated to the stands for the next game against Iceland. There they continued to attract negative attention through obscene gestures before the game. On April 4, the Scottish Football Association announced that McGregor and Ferguson would no longer appear for the Bravehearts. However, this decision was later reversed.
