James "Jamie" Murphy (born August 28, 1989 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish football player who is under contract with the Glasgow Rangers .

Career

Jamie Murphy began playing football when he was a child with Westwood Rovers and Drumchapel Thistle. Until 2002 he continued his career in the junior division with FC Clyde , and later with FC Motherwell . In May 2008 Murphy made his professional debut for the club from Motherwell against Hibernian Edinburgh . He stayed with the club until January 2013 and played 176 league games. He scored 34 goals. The greatest successes were reaching the Scottish Cup final in 2011 (which was lost to Celtic Glasgow ) and the runner-up in 2013 . He then moved to Sheffield United . At the English third division he was able to secure a regular place in the team of Danny Wilson and the later coach Nigel Clough . In August 2015 he switched to the English second division team Brighton & Hove Albion . With the club, he was promoted to the Premier League at the end of the 2016/17 season as second in the table . In the first half of the following season he was not used, so that in January 2018 he was awarded to the Glasgow Rangers in the Scottish Premiership until the end of the season . In May 2018, the Rangers signed Murphy from Brighton and gave him a three-year contract. In January 2020, Murphy was awarded to the English third division club Burton Albion after making only four appearances in the Scottish Premiership after his firm commitment.

National team

Jamie Murphy made his Scottish U19 debut against Iceland in September 2007 . By the end of October of the same year he completed three more international matches in this age group against Moldova , Azerbaijan and Ukraine . Almost exactly a year after his U19 debut, he played his U21 debut against Denmark in Scotland . By 2010, Murphy had played a total of 13 games and scored four goals. In March 2016, Gordon Strachan's offensive player was appointed to the senior squad , but was not used in the friendly against Denmark. Two years later, in 2018, he played in two international matches for Scotland. He made his debut against Costa Rica on March 23, 2018.
