The Underwood Glacier is a 15-mile long karst glacier on the Knox coast of Wilkesland, East Antarctica . It flows into the Mawson Sea between the Reist Rocks and Cape Nutt .
The American cartographer Gardner Dean Blodgett (* 1925) mapped it in 1955 using aerial photographs taken during Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the glacier in 1955 after Joseph Addison Underwood (1809-1840), lieutenant on the sloop USS Vincennes , flagship of the United States Exploring Expedition (1838-1842) under the direction of the US polar explorer Charles Wilkes , who was killed by locals during this research trip on July 24, 1840 on one of the Fiji islands .
