Cape Nutt is a mainly icy cape with a few rocky outcrops on the outermost edge on the Knox coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It forms the west side of the entrance to Vincennes Bay .
The location of the cape coincides with the eastern end of the coastline registered in 1840 in the maps of the United States Exploring Expedition (1838–1842) under Charles Wilkes as Knox's High Land . The cape was photographed from aerial photographs taken by the United States Navy during Operation Highjump (1946–1947). The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the cape in 1955 after Commander David C. Nutt (1919-2008) of the Reserve Forces of the US Navy, geographic assistant scientist at Dartmouth College and marine biologist for Operation Windmill (1947-1948).
