Operation Windmill
The Operation Windmill (OpWml) (Company windmill) was a research and training mission of the United States Navy in the Antarctic from 1947 to 1948. The operation followed the First Antarctic Developments Project , under the name Operation Highjump (companies high jump) is known . The expedition, Task Force 39 (Einsatzgruppe 39), was led by Commander (Frigate Captain) Gerald L. Ketchum , US Navy, and his expedition flagship was the USS Burton Island , accompanied by the USS Edisto .
